little women by Louisa M. Alcott
Why should you read little woman by Louisa May Alcott.
Hello again,
To say that this classical bliss is one of my favorites would be an understatement. The author has beautifully depicted the up-downs a family go-through especially when a country is at war. This is a story about four sisters who live with their mother (marmee........as they used to call her lovingly). The story begins with four March sisters-Jo,Meg, Amy and Beth who are preparing for Christmas.
The story has a perfect mix of emotions and drama to it. The story takes you through the journey of the four sisters. Their struggle for money and a good career is overwhelming. Their household runs out of money as their father is out their serving the nation during American civil war. They try to win bread by living high moral life. The most touching part of the story was that they were themselves struggling for the money but they still lent their Christmas breakfast to one who were in the dire need of it.
The most awe-inspiring character in the novel was Jo march. She was a woman of strong-character and high intellectual abilities. She was an aspiring writer who used to write short stories. The major breakthrough came when she started writing about her life and family. The friendship of Jo and Laurie was something that kept me hooked throughout the novel. Well, I was hoping that they would end-up together but it didn't happen. Her dreams and aspiration were too high to settle down that early. But when she decided to get hitched, then it was too late as Laurie had already find companionship in her younger sister Amy by then.
The changing dynamic of relationships in the novel keeps one hooked throughout the book. The author has depicted four different character with different hopes, thoughts and aspiration which keeps the reader engaged throughout the journey of the four sisters, their transition from childhood to womanhood and their trial and tribulations.
If you haven't already read this book, then buy your editions and strap down yourself for one hell of a roller-coaster journey. If you are not much of a book reader then you can always watch the movie.
